As there is no single piece of evidence supporting the existence of "god" (or any supernatural phenomenon for that matter) , it is highly unlikely that Jesus ' is ' back ' .
There may have been someone named "Jesus" around two thousand years ago (though no surviving Roman records that mention that person) , but there was nothing supernatural in it because the supernatural is not real.
If someone tries to tell you otherwise , ask them what actual evidence they have to support the idea. When all you can bring is a Bible , ask them why the Bible is right and not the Qur'an. Now , what do you think someone who believes in the Koran say if the roles were reversed ? Who is right ?
Jesus returned in 70AD, during the Roman Jewish War, about 40 years after His ascension. This was a LONG time for his disciples and believers to wait!! Yet many Christians today are still waiting. Because they don't understand that His return does not end the planet! It is not a cosmic event; it is a covenantal event. His return abolished the old covenant and brought in the new covenant. THIS was the world that was destroyed - the temple in Jerusalem with its rituals and practices that had endured for hundreds of years! Those principles were the "elements that burned with fervent heat" in the fires that destroyed every inch of the temple. The last days were the days the disciples lived in - the last days of the old covenant world.
"...in these last days (God) has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things..." - Hebrews 1:2
"Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come." - I Cor 10:11
(Who did the end of the age come upon? THEM! Not us!)
Everything written in the Bible has come to pass already. We know from history, and we know from the Bible itself as God inspired Luke to write this 2000 years ago:
"Because these are the days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled." - Luke 21:22
Jesus is here, and He has been since AD70. His presence is among us, His Kingdom is spiritual, not physical, we won't actually "see" it until this earth life is over. He said it would not come with observation, and He said it was within the believer.
This is a major paradigm shift in Christian tradition, but I believe a reformation is coming in the next decade or so, as more people are studying history and apocalyptic/figurative language. Also people are learning fundamentals of interpretation such as "audience relevance" -- who were the FIRST hearers of Bible letters, and how did they understand the words "soon, at hand, without delay, at the door, the last hour, will not tarry" ? When you put all that together, it makes so much sense you'll wonder how you never saw it before! See links for more verses on the timing and nature of Jesus' return.
He will come back one day and bring is church (Christians that are saved) up into Heaven. Heaven is way better if you have had the chance to be saved. The Bible says that no one knows when He is coming back so all we can do is be prepared by being saved!
