Nope .. not really
Hurricanes - always a potential problem , but until we have never been beaten by one more .
Volcanoes - uh no
Earthquakes - the minor possible, but never had a big .
Blizzards / winter storms --- probably the greatest threat to the bad weather . New York has been buried in 2-3 feet of snow and brutal conditions . But storms , as they usually only come once every 15-20 years or so .
Heat Waves --- eh not really. But Nyers are babies on the heat . If it gets into the 90 senior people freak out. It is not unknown for 100 degree heat breaks, but ussualy only seniors are afffected why .
Floods - . Generally not a problem
Tornados - although not impossible , the most important are rare in the Northeast. Ussualy are very isolated and do not cause much damage.
Huh ? Ummm no!
Manhattan is part of New York City . We have never had volcanoes , earthquakes and tornadoes. However, I have heard of some towns in neighboring New Jerseyy who have had tornadoes.
Well, there was a tornado in Brooklyn neighbor a few years ago . No volcanoes . Earthquakes are very rare , and even those who never biger 2.5 . The Weather Channel is trying to scare people that a major hurricane could devastate the city , but has never gotten more than Manhattan
New Jersey .
But seriously , no catastrophic natural disasters that occur in New York . The landscape is not flat enough for tornadoes , the city is not near fault lines to have volcanoes or earthquakes and hurricanes hit south too . The worst weather we received was 100 ° (heat waves stay hydrated ) , or snowstorms ( take the subway ) .
Defiantly not. Manhattan is a beautiful place to go especially in the summer or fall. The only problem you will ever have with weather is during the winter if there is a blizzard. Defiantly a place to visit once ion your life time.
